James Scarlett (Jes) was born in 1995 in the West suburbs of Chicago and is currently based in Baltimore, MD. They are pursuing an MFA from the LeRoy E. Hoffberger School of Painting at the Maryland Institute College of Art and received a BA in Studio Art and Art History from the University of Colorado Boulder in 2017.

James has created a painting practice intended to channel the schizophrenic structures of information and cultural refuse online, to explore fragmentation as it is reflected in our digital landscapes. Their work explores the scattering of digital, physical, mental and poetic realities, and the ways in which this effects how we understand ourselves, humanity, art, future and the boundaries of a consensus reality.
